Young Children and First Aid

Many people do not know much about first aid and this can cause some serious problems in the event of an emergency, and none of us know when this might happen. Just as we do not know how to deal with emergency situation and when it will come, our children also do not know. In fact, most of the children know much less than we do and even if they would love to help, they rarely can in such serious matters. However, this does not mean that you should not teach your children about first aid. After all, what if something happens when there are no adults present? And what if the adult is in the situation of an emergency and there are only children present to help?

Eventually, younger children need to be taught a little bit differently because large amounts of complex information will probably only confused them. They need to understand few basic ideas about first aid like putting pressure on a cut that is bleeding or cleaning a dirty wound properly. These are basic measures that everyone should know regardless of their age.

Keeping a first aid kit in your home or in your car is the best way to make sure you can provide your love ones with the first aid they may need. Having the right and complete items in your first aid kit such us bandages and alcohol wipes are very important. In addition, instant ice packs are wonderful since they do not need to be refrigerated before use. Make sure you have all the medicines needed as well and keep on checking the expiration dates of the medicines you have in your first aid kit.

It is a huge help to take a short class in basic first aid (and CPR) as many things have changed in recent years and techniques and products have tremendous leaps. Having a defibrillator device at home is also an advantage. It can use successfully to resuscitate a person experiencing a heart failure. Based on the instructions, even if a person who never been trained on the proper use of an AED or has never performed a CPR can successfully operate a defibrillator and possibly save a patient’s life.

Since it is impossible to totally eliminate the risks of accidents in the home or any place, doing some safety improvements can lessen the risk and supplying emergency materials can quickly aid the victim if ever an accident do happen. Also it is very important to know the basic steps on how to handle a person having an accident.
